Honda Accord Gas Mileage Up for 2011

Honda won't be majorly redesigning its flagship Accord for about another two years. A few design and weight modifications is making the 2011 model yield a one to three mile per gallon increase in its fuel-economy ratings, Honda says.

Changes in the 2011 Accord, which is on sale now at [Dealer Name], [Dealer City] come off as fairly minor: new grille and taillights, different wheels, minor relocation of some instrument panel switches. The fuel mileage gains come through low rolling-resistance tires, better aerodynamics and drivetrain updates.

If you think Honda is going to become stale, fear not - it's still on the five-year remodeling cycle it considers normal: The automaker won't stretch the life of a car to six or even seven years to save money in these iffy times.

Honda's 2011 Accord lineup now includes an SE model - priced over the LX lower-market model and including upgrades such as leather upholstery. SE starts at $24,480 including $750 shipping.

Honda often uses the SE package as a way to draw fresh interest in the Accord partway through its life without the expense of splashy, profit-killing sales incentives.

The base motor is a 2.4-liter 190-horsepower four-cylinder with 16 valves and Honda's i-VTEC variable-valve technology. A 3.5-liter 268-horsepower V6 is also offered.

A Variable Cylinder Management, which shuts off three of the cylinders under light-load conditions, is standard on the EX-L automatic. At around 3,500 pounds, the V6 car is heavier than the four-cylinder but the added power makes up for it.

So how much is the mileage for 2011's Accord? According to the EPA - 21 city and an amazing 31 highway.
