Honda Unveils New N Series Model in Tokyo

Here at Scholfield Honda, you'll find a variety of new Honda models that come in all shapes and sizes. From the sleek 2012 Accord to the compact Honda Fit, there's something for everybody here in Wichita. However, Honda drivers in Japan have a taste for something a little different than the norm.

Japanese drivers have been able to purchase compact vehicles in the Kei or light automobile class for decades. This year, Honda is taking an angular approach to these government-subsidized vehicles with their new N Series. The first of these, the Honda N Box made its debut at the Tokyo Auto Show - and early reviews of it has us wondering if we might see an American variant in the near future.

It's a super-mini vehicle, or a mini-minivan, if you will. It's made from 90-percent recycled material, and despite its tiny dimensions, it features "one of the largest interiors among all mini-vehicles currently on the market."1 The N Box also boasts some pretty cool features, including a pair of convex mirrors mounted on the inside of the car to reflect onto the mirror mounted on the outside of the door to aid in parallel parking. It's designed to eliminate blindspots without the need for an expensive camera system, and we think it's pretty ingenious.

Similar to the Honda Fit, the gas tank of the N Box is mounted under the front seats, leaving ample room for the back seats (that can even fold completely flat). The 660cc engine, mated to a CVT transmission, gets best-in-class fuel economy with the help of an idle-stop mechanism. And just because it's tiny doesn't mean it's not powerful - the N Box is available with a turbo option.

Like we said, no word yet on whether or not this could make it to U.S. markets - but we think it'd be a stellar addition to the already expansive lineup of new Hondas available here at Scholfield Honda, 7017 East Kellogg Dr, Wichita, KS 67207.
