There's nothing more iconic in America than kids out on the baseball field. From weekend games in the city park to school teams competing against each other on warm fall nights, there's just something about it, isn't there? Here at Scholfield Honda, we think it'd be really hard to imagine life without baseball. But, there are some places in America where the communities don't have the money or resources to sponsor little league teams.
And as far as Honda is concerned, that's simply unacceptable. Every kid in America should have the chance to crack a homerun ball over the fence. And for 15 years, the automaker has been the official sponsor of Little League Baseball and Softball.
As part of their sponsorship, Honda has donated $800,000 to the Urban Initiative, which helps communities without the resources to form Little League teams. It started in Los Angeles and Harlem in 1999, and has since spread to 85 cities across the country - that's over 200 leagues and more than 43,000 players.
If you grew up playing sports, you know that you learn more than the rules of the game while you're out on the field. You learn about teamwork, friendships, self-esteem, and physical exercise. Plus there's the thrill of catching a pop-fly in your broken-in leather glove, the adrenaline of racing from third base to home, the joy of high-fiving your team mates after a game well-played (win or lose).
Nobody should miss out on that. And Scholfield Honda is proud to represent an automaker that takes a vested interest in communities around the country.
