A hybrid sports car? Seems like an odd combo, but thanks to the Honda CR-Z, drivers around the world can now satisfy their need for speed as well as their eco-conscious side. And this green coupe was recently named as a finalist for the Wheels Car of the Year Award.
The magazine, based in Australia, has been naming Car of the Year for nearly 50 years. According to Editor Bill Thomas, this year's list of finalists represents the widest range of entrants in the award's history. The Honda CR-Z is up against six other foreign and domestic vehicles - each boasting supreme performance and styling.
But we think that its 1.5-liter engine with Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) technology (together producing 122 hp), gives it an extra boost. Judge James Whitbourn agrees, saying that the CR-Z is a refreshing and enjoyable car, "Combine the grin factor with the efficiency promised by the hybrid systems and there's little doubt the Honda coupe takes the car where it should be going - smaller, lighter, more efficient and more fun."2
Wheels will be announcing their Car of the Year choice on January 18th. Scholfield Honda certainly thinks the Honda CR-Z has what it takes to beat out the competition - what about you?
