Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, LLC, (HMIN) in Greensburg has received LEED Green Building Certification for its Welcome Center, the company announced recently. The center is the ninth Honda facility in North America to earn LEED certification since 2008.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a rating system for many types of building construction including new construction and is awarded by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). The GBCI recognizes excellence in green building practice and performance globally through its third-party certification services. HMIN is the first company to receive this distinction in Decatur County.

Honda has been awarded the Greenest Automobile award not once, not twice, not even three times. The Japanese auto maker was the recipient of this prestigious green award Five Years in a row. The award was given thanks to the company's stride to lower greenhouse emissions and minimize smog output.

Its average score from the Clean Vehicles Program suggests Honda's fleet is 14% cleaner than the average scores from the competition.

Honda has received many accolades in the past, but in today's world nothing shines brighter than being named the Best Green Car to hit dealership lots and customer driveways.

Honda did this twice. The officials at KBB.com have named both the small Honda Fit and Honda Insight hybrid best on a list of Kelley Blue Book Top 10 Green Cars for 2010.
