Honda Recieves Spots on Most American-Made Vehicles List of 2019

It’s summer 2019 which means Cars.com has just released their newest ‘American-Made Index Methodology’ ranking the top 10 most American-made vehicles on the market.

In previous years, Honda has racked up a number of awards such as KBB.com's Best Value and Best Overall Brand in 2018 and 2019 (1), IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and IIHS Top Safety Pick in 2017 (2), and NHTSA 5-Star Safety Ratings in 2017 (3).

In an era of increased globalization, many Americans consider where a vehicle is built when shopping for a new car in hopes of contributing to the U.S. economy and new jobs. The Cars.com American-Made Index analyzes a range of factors to determine which new cars and trucks contribute more to the U.S. economy, regardless of the location of the manufacturer’s headquarters.

To build the list, Cars.com analyzes five factors:

  • Where a car is assembled
  • Domestic-parts content
  • Where the engines and transmissions come from
  • How many U.S. factory workers its parent automaker employs relative to vehicle sales

A Look at the Honda and Acura Vehicles on the Cars.com American-Made Index

For the second consecutive year, the Japanese automaker has the most models on the list with four of the Honda models being built in Lincoln, Alabama and two Acura models being built in East Liberty, Ohio.

Acura RDX

Starting things off at number 10, the Acura RDX is unlike any other compact-luxury crossover on the market. While toeing the line between luxury and sport, the Acura RDX has an angular frame and a striking front end that stands out compared to its competitors while offering comparable build-quality at a lower price. With the return of available Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®), a driver-focused cabin and groundbreaking technology, this vehicle makes a bold statement and a high-quality driving experience.

Honda Pilot

Coming in at number seven, Honda looked to their Odyssey minivan for inspiration (mentioned later) and pulled off a beautiful mid-cycle restyling of the Honda Pilot’s grille and front end for its new Honda Pilot. With a kid-friendly interior and vast cargo space, as well as 4G Wi-Fi connection, the Honda Pilot certainly has what it takes to win over any growing family.
With a smooth and powerfully efficient V-6 engine, the Honda Pilot offers towing capacity that will be more than adequate for most buyers. The Honda Pilot also offers its standard driver-assistance technology, providing drivers with forward-collision alert, automated emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control added to all Pilot models.

Acura MDX

Following close behind the Honda Pilot, the Acura MDX comes in at number six. Much like the Acura RDX, the Acura MDX isn’t your ordinary crossover and comes with a hybrid Powertrain derived from Acura’s NSX supercar to deliver you performance and drivability alongside its 290-hp V-6 engine with optional torque-vectoring all-wheel drive. The 2019 MDX received a handful of updates including a new appearance package, improved materials, and performance enhancements, making the Acura MDX one of the most compelling options in its class.

Honda Passport

That’s right, the Passport is back. Coming in at number four, the Honda Passport is essentially a smaller version of the Honda Pilot, but rivals competitor crossovers.

The Honda Passport comes with a standard 280-hp 3.5-liter V-6 and nine-speed automatic transmission, standard front-wheel drive, and optional i-VTM4 (Intelligent Variable Torque Management) technology. Not to mention, with a ground clearance of 7.5 inches, the Honda Passport can tow up to 5,000 pounds, but it also has the capability to go from zero to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. The Honda Passport is a comfortable ride with pleasant steering, giving drivers a nimble and agile feeling behind the wheel.

Honda Ridgeline

Coming in at number three, the Honda Ridgeline veers from tradition to provide drivers with unconventional comfort and features. If you’re in the market for a quintessential crossover, the Honda Ridgeline is more than worth considering. With a comfortable cabin, powerful towing capabilities, and an innovative cargo box the Honda Ridgeline certainly enhances the truck tradition. Even though it's only built as a crew cab with a 5.3-foot bed, the Honda Ridgeline offers a speedy 280-hp V-6 and six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive with optional all-wheel drive and has earned “10 Best Trucks and SUVs” honors from Car and Driver for three years in a row (4). For 2019, the Ridgeline received a second USB port update, as well as a power sunroof and power-sliding rear windows.

Honda Odyssey

Last, but certainly not least, the Honda Odyssey closed the Cars.com ‘American-Made Index’ at number two. If you think minivans are a thing of the past, think again. The Honda Odyssey switched things up by sporting a brand new stylish exterior in the hopes of wooing buyers and didn’t have to sacrifice space and comfortability in the process.

With an abundance of options such as an onboard vacuum, a video baby monitor, and an in-cabin intercom system to accompany the rear-seat-entertainment features - it is a fantastic family-friendly vehicle. Honda even offered the Odyssey its driver-assistance technologies, including automated emergency braking and adaptive cruise control to add to its already compelling features.
