Scholfield Honda Driving Environmental Leadership

Recently, Honda was recognized by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for their sustainability practices and reducing environmental risks. Their efforts included disclosing water data, using recycled materials and working with suppliers that use sustainable practices. For years, Scholfield Honda has taken it upon themselves to reduce the dealership’s impact on the environment locally in Wichita, Kansas. They have become a Honda Green Dealer because they were able to track their monthly consumption of water, electricity and natural gas and make the recommended improvements.

Buildings in the U.S. use nearly 40% of all energy consumed and produce more than a third of the CO2 emissions across the country. Car dealerships are no different with their large showrooms, busy body shops, service centers and car washes. To reduce the impact on the environment, Scholfield Honda did their own assessment with an energy efficiency expert and implemented the following improvements to become a more “green” business.

  • Replaced inefficient shop lights with high-efficiency fluorescent fixtures.
  • Reduced exterior lights by 60% at 10 p.m. each night.
  • Used water drip lines for 75% of the dealership’s landscaping irrigation.
  • Created a paperless system for archiving records.
  • Established a comprehensive recycling program for batteries, transmission fluid, coolant, engine oil, oil filters and tires.
